This unique UK coin is struck in 15.50 grams of crown gold (917 fine) and measures 27.30 millimetres in diameter. Formally called the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, nearly every English and British monarch since 1066 has been crowned within the walls of the Abbey. On the reverse, a stylised line drawing of Westminster Abbey by Natasha Jenkins is seen in the background, with His Majesty's crowned royal cypher in the foreground. It's the work of sculptor Martin Jennings and shows the new monarch facing left wearing the Tudor Crown, the first time in over three and a half centuries that a British monarch has worn a crown on UK coinage. These coins feature a special portrait of the King on the obverse. He was the longest heir apparent in British history, waiting 70 years before becoming King. On the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Charles III acceded to the throne. Only 500 of these 22 carat gold 50p coins have been authorised by The Royal Mint in this limited edition presentation, making them a must-have for coin collectors and royal enthusiasts.
